At the outset of the programme consortium partners discussed the vision for artworks to meet the needs of older people living with dementia in offering stimulation and interaction in the care environment. Early in the project the Abbeyfield Societies Head of Dementia Innovation spoke about the opportunity to make care homes more engaging, especially for some residents who have the urge to wander. We spoke about the potential of creating interactive artworks installed in corridors and communal living spaces.
Taking this advice on board, a series of interactive digital artworks have been devised in collaboration with residents and artists Martin Sommerville and Graham Elstone. The outcome of this work has been to create three interactive furniture pieces incorporating Bare Conductive touch boards with innovative results
